In Cardiff apart from central library there is a lot of smaller ones. Wherever
you are in the city you should find a branch library near to you.
They organise a lot of different kind courses, etc. so it is worth
checking what is going on in your local library.
There are over 500.000 items. Over 18.000 CD's, and all that need to be moved to a new temporary building, because a new building is being build.
You will be still able to use computers in the old building.
If you want you can use e-library: ibistro.cardiff.gov.uk
You can join your local library for free. You can borrow books and use the computers for free, but they do charge for other services like CDs & DVDs.
File [*.doc 270kB] with charges and fees you can downloadhere.
Can I borrow stuff from any library?
Once you have your card you can borrow items from any Cardiff Council Library.
Can I keep my books a bit longer?
If you haven't quite finished the book that you are reading you may be able to 'renew' the book if it hasn't already been 'reserved' by someone else. You can renew the book by taking it back to the library, phoning the library, or renew online. Don't forget, you'll need your library card. If it's the first time you've renew online you'll need a PIN as well - and you'll need to speak to a librarian (in person or by phone) to get that.
What if I don't get my book back on time?
If you forget to bring your book back on time you will have to pay a small 'fine' because you didn't tell that you wanted to keep the book a bit longer. Check the Fees & Charges section (there are no fines on children's books) for the latest fees.
